How the ECI works

Each acute system is scored by its live reading against published thresholds (click any system above to see its own): STABLE = 1 · WATCH = ⅔ · DEGRADED = ⅓ · CRITICAL = 0.

The Earth Conditions Index is the plain average across all ten systems, ×100. Every system counts equally. Three ceilings then apply, so that a disrupted system cannot be averaged away by the calm ones: the index cannot read above 84 while any system is degraded, above 69 while any is critical, or above 54 while two are. A feed that cannot be reached is excluded from the average rather than counted as calm.
